I have not had the Shake Shack shakes in Manhattan, however I tried the black and white at Citifield and it was great.

I have been wanting to try the toasted marshmallow shake at Stand forever. They also have some other really interesting flavors like Ricotta pistachio and honey lavender chocolate.

I have also wanted to try BLT Burger's shakes and Island Burgers and Shakes. Anyone have them?

I have had the choc/peanut butter shake at BLT Burger and it was nothing short of awesome. Truly. Worth the trip!!

Last week I invented what I think was the best milkshake I ever had. I went to Baskin Robins, you all know that place that is attached to every Dunkin Donuts. I got a shake that was half coffee and half chocolate chip mint. The Coffee, mint and chocolate flavors together were unreal.

That's like asking who makes the best bagel, or the best hot dog, or the best baguette in Paris, the spectrum of responses and criteria are so wide it may as well be a rhetorical question.

Yes Shake Shack and Stand are excellent but so are most of the little ice cream places and hole-in-the-wall eateries in the LES. Heck, ask them to throw a shot of liquor in there and every milkshake becomes the best milkshake in the city.

Vanilla shake at Shake Shack
Milk shake using Chocolate mint soft serve and cereal milk at Momofuku Milk bar, although I dont think they have that flavor ice cream any more

Another vote for Shake Shack- a black and white is necessary with a Shack Burger. Recently had a good one from Jacques Torres in DUMBO- choc/choc raspberry.

Unfortunately my favorite shake is no longer available. Gem Spa on St. Mark's and 2nd made the meanest black and white- but recently removed their ice cream freezer. They were great. They still make a very good egg cream so all is not lost.

Nope I was just there on Friday and they are serving blackberry, lemon verbena, apricot, and rosemary.

I agree. Their salted caramel shake was amazing. I wish salted caramel was always on tap there :)

I'm personally a big fan of the milkshakes at Stand, on 12th Street, particularly the Toasted Marshmallow shake. Their burgers are good too.

I actually get periodic cravings for it, which is a bit more challenging now that I live uptown. I have to run an errand in the area next week, and I'm definitely planning to head to Stand just for that.
