Is a winner. They have some service issues now. Service is good and friendly, but they missed a few individual orders that I saw. I suspect this will be cleared up soon and it is nowhere near as bad as 8oz was when they first opened, just to put it in perspective.

The food is great. The pizza is far superior to spris and piola and quite a bit better than sosta. I have not been to volante yet so can't compare. I had the atomica and the fennel bottarga. Both were great, but I liked the atomica better at the end of the day.

PS. Get the egg appetizer. It is awesome - get bread to sop it up.

They don't have the ice cream thing going yet but that will be up soon.

One thing I was surprised at was the peeled the shrimp at the crudo bar. I did not expect that considering they don't peel the shrimp at sardinia. The coctail sauce is not standard but was good more mild and a little sweeter than normal. I hope they get "regular" cocktail sauce there as well as both have their uses.

Everything there was very good.

  1. Thanks for the update, will have to check it out very soon!

    1. I had an OK first experience. The service issues were negligible for me considering it was the first night

The chicken liver crostini was good (more liverey (sp) flavor a la Fratelli's vs. say Michaels). Only minus was that it's served on a panini crushed ciabatta which was way too soft for the liver. It was like eating chicken liver on pressed cuban toast. I would rather have had it on their house bread (which is delicious and addicting). The burrata was curdled in the center and the accompaniments were pretty mediocre (a few limp looking baby zucchini with negligible mint and over roasted grape tomatoes that weren't oven roasted). Had the fennel/bottarga pizza was disappointed mostly in the crust. It was ridiculously thin so by the second and third slices the crust had almost turned to mush, more so in the center vs. the edges. On the other hand, the toppings tasted better when the pizza was at room temp vs. straight out of the oven. In fact my last bite tasted better then the first (although, again, the crust had issues).

This is a pizza place, but only about 1/4 of the menu is devoted to pizza. Not that that's bad, but if there's not as many choices as say Piola or Spris, then every pizza should be spot on due to the limited #. This one I have to say wasn't, but again, for me it was just about the crust.

Other than that, the vibe was great, the wine list is well priced and given Sardinia's track record, the service will almost definitely improve. Will wait to see if that crust gets better!

Interesting, my crust was crispy on both pizzas I had.

Mine too. It's the best crust for texture and taste I've had. Friday night was packed and the service was exceptional.

          1. re: 2top

Friday night should've been exceptional since it was "Friends and Family" night!

I'm sorry but I don't see the logic in these statements:

"This is a pizza place, but only about 1/4 of the menu is devoted to pizza. Not that that's bad, but if there's not as many choices as say Piola or Spris, then every pizza should be spot on due to the limited #."

Also I would not consider the crust "ridiculously thin". Mine was thin but was no thinner than spris or piola and actually might have been thicker...

Maybe I got a bad pizza, but by the last slice the crust toward the middle was starting to mush. I don't necessarily need it to be crisp (in fact I like it to be slightly chewy) but when I picked up the last slice the thing was flopping down like a dead fish. And we ate pretty quick so it wasn't hanging out for too much time.

It was not cracker crispy btw, I don't want to give the impression you are eating something like the flat bread, it just had an element of crispy to it. It does sound to me you had a bad pie. Hopefully, mine is the trend and yours is the exception.
