Denville Fish Market on Main Street (aka Broadway) is terrific...

This may be a little out of the way, but the fish at the Market Basket in Franklin Lakes ( the only place i will buy fish at anymore) is so good that you won't believe it. Tonight, for example, I'm making bay scallop ceviche and swordfish with tomatoes and capers. Trust me, it will be worth the trip.

Just today my boss was talking about the only place he'll buy fish...the guy comes to the Morristown, Madison, and Summit Farmer's Markets. He swears by the products, and I can't begin to tell you how picky this man is! Sorry I don't have a name, but check those town FMs...I'm sure you'll find him there. He mentioned getting everything from scallops to calamari to swordfish and sashimi-grade tuna.

There's an Asian Market in Parsippany on Route 46 Westbound just past Interstate Route 80 and the Shopping Mall where Home Depot and Shop Rite are located. The market is called Top Quality. It may not be the most appealing place to the eye, but I am sure they have a selection of fish far greater than most in the area with very attractive pricing on fresh and frozen sea foods compared to others as well. You should go at least once and decide for yourself.

Apple Farm off 287 in White Plains has the best fish in the northern suburbs. In Manhattan, of course, there's Citarella.

Not new, but your best bet is Peter's fish market in Midland Park. http://www.petersfishmarket.com/

I second Peter's Fish Market, on Godwin Ave in Midland Park. Before Christmas Eve, they set up a tent and heaters for the folks who willingly wait in line to pick up their orders for their seven fishes feasts. Staff is very helpful.

Friends of mine swear by Metropolitan Seafood in the Clinton area:

I wish I had a good answer. I'm going to try Denville Fish Market next time I'm in the area. But in general, I've had SOME luck [not 1000%, though] with the ShopRite in Lincoln Park and Corrado's in Wayne. But that's because I've made a point of talking with the guys behind the counter so they get to know me. When I ask them what's fresh today, they tell me. and they let me smell whatever i want. So far, they haven't steered me wrong, even when they shake their heads sadly and say they didn't get a delivery today [rarely happens, but ...]
