North County kid-friendly?

Josh Jul 11, 2009 11:56 AM

Some friends are visiting from out of town and have two very young (2 and newborn) children. Looking for a decent place in North County that would be accommodating, that also is vegetarian friendly. Any suggestions?

How far north and east do you want to venture Josh?

      Hey Josh.
Cavaillon is lovely and has a great menu...great brunch too.
Stone's Brewery would be cool...Hacienda de Vega has a lovely patio and great food...

Cavaillon I've heard good things about. Would it be OK for the two young children?

Stone is just too far out of the way, needs to be more around Del Mar.

I've seen very young children at Cavaillon..are you going for lunch/brunch/dinner?
Food is excellent and you can meander through the ranch and go to Chino's if early..
I think you will be very pleased but call and ahead and see what they suggest as to table placement or other ideas.
          Report back..

I am not sure if Cavaillon would be best place for very young kids. IUt might be OK if you sit outside.

Yeah, she said "nothing too fancy" and I think Cavaillon won't pass that test. Hacienda looks OK, but it's too far out.

Hacienda de Vaga in Escondido ? - No, never eaten there. My Mexican places in North County are normally Don Chuy and Bety's - both wouldn't be bad with young kids.

Ki's in Cardiff fits the bill for both.

The Naked Cafe in Solana Beach would also fit, if you're looking for breakfast/brunch/casual lunch. They have a few other locations further north, I think in Encinitas and/or Cardiff.

Beach Grass Cafe in Solana Beach is decent, although for some reason, I don't have the urge to go back unless someone else wants to go.

Pizza Nova in Solana Beach is quite good.

If you want to do the ultimate in chain and vegetarian friendly, there is Souplantation in Carmel Valley.

I should mention that only a couple of the diners are vegetarian. Not looking for a vegetarian place per se, just a place that will have some items that vegetarians will eat.

Ki's definitely has lots of vegetarian options. as do the others I mentioned. I threw in Souplantation b/c I couldn't think of anything else at the time....

I know Ki's has that, I was thinking of something a little more upscale.

Sounds like you're looking for something in between Ki's and Cavaillon. Cavaillon will work if you sit outside.

In Del Mar, Pacifica Breeze Cafe is good for brunch and lunch. All outdoor seating and people bring their dogs there. Americana would be another option. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Both have vegetarian options.

Rendevouz in the Del Mar Plaza is Chinese fusion and kid-friendly. It's been a while since I've been there, but they may have vegetarian options.

Another idea is Luc's Bistro in Poway, although we haven't made it there yet. Maybe someone else can comment on the availability of vegetarian options and environment.

There's Crepes and Cork in Del Mar, again another "need to check out" place for us, but the pictures looked kid-friendly and they definitely had vegetarian options.

                    Make sure you report back!
