Northern Westchest/West Conn Steak?

Hi all - any recommendations for a place to get a decent steak in the area? Doesnt have to be a steak house - just somewhere you can get a decent steak if you wanted it. Been to Croton Creek twice and found if terrible both times. Thanks Koko85

  1. Thank you!!!!! I thought that place was truly awful. The steaks were tasteless, the service diner like, and very expensive. We are going to try Augies Prime Cut in Mohegan Lake tonight. I'll post after!

Curious about Augies. Croton Creek is awful. How do they stay open?

I have no idea. We went twice. The first time,my rib eye had NO flavor and neither did my husband's filet. The owner came over and was very nice - gave my dh another filet and I drowned mine in the sauce on the side that I had to buy. The owner did tell us that everyone else seemed to be enjoying their steaks and I replied that lots of people like PIzza Hut, too, that does not make it good pizza (by this time I was done). Second time was worse and the service worse, too. Maybe they stay in business because people just want to have a steak house and there really isn't much around there, and, also, lots of people really have no taste in food!!
As for Augies - it was good. The steaks are aged and you can taste it. The prime rib is cut to order and I had an end piece. While the meat was very good, the only complaint I had was that it didn't have that nice crust on it that you would expect from an end cut, but very flavorful. the steaks and priime rib came with a choice of potato - my baked was really good - and an iceberg wedge salad with blue cheese, but you could get a different dressing or opt for the house salad. As for service, the manager was waiting our table so it was very good. I don't know about anyone else. We had a very enthusiastic young bus boy who was trying so hard - very sweet. We will go back. We have a 3 time rule as we find that restaurants in Westchester are not consistently good, so we dont' really make a decision until we've eaten there a few times.

    2. Hey Wincountrygirl -glad Augies worked out. we ended up gping a bit further into CT and went to Carmen Anthonys in Woodbury exit 15 off 84 - really not a bad ride from the danbury mall at all - i was very impressed. Clams for apps were a knockout, the salad was the Berry Salad and it was terrific and my medium rare ribeye Au jus was perfect - a nice crust and very tender and flavorful. someone in our group ordered the 3 course prix fixe - $29.99 it comes with the 6 ounce filet mignon as the main and that was great as well. i also had a terrific creme brulee that blew away my expectations. i know when am jonesing for steak i will take the extra 20 mins and head to this place - although i do wanna try out Marc Charles in Armonk at some point. Thanks again - koko85

That place sounds good, but exit 15 for us is a bit much, as we are in Goldens Bridge. I read a review of Marc Charles and don't think they liked the steaks. Glad you enjoyed your meal!!!

      2. Flame's Steak House in Briarcliff Manor. Excellent steak, so-so decor, costly but worth it. Here's a useful link:
