Truckee/ North Lake Tahoe Gems

I'm headed to North Lake Tahoe for a week in Sept (for a wedding) and will be staying Truckee. I have plenty of time, but i figured it's never too soon to ask....

Any foodie gems I should know about?

I would love any advise you have (what's good, what's cheap, where not to go, good bars etc)

One of my favorites in the the whole area is Moody's Bistro, in Truckee. They have a sister restaurant at NorthStar called Baxter's, also excellent. Also in Truckee, Dragonfly has wonderful fusion. Have a cocktail at Cottonwood, on the deck while it's still light out. It's a beautiful view of downtown.

My other favorite restaurant is Plumpjack, in Squaw Valley.

Don't miss Fifty Fifty Brewing Company at the traffic circle in Truckee. Great beer and food. Excellent for lunch or a casual dinner. We also like the Squeeze Inn in downtown Truckee for breakfast or lunch.

I second the rec for Dragonfly, the sushi is very good. Had dinner recently at Cottonwood and it was good but not great. A really fun place for a pre dinner cocktail though and has a great view.

Up in Tahoe Donner (Truckee) the Lodge at the golf course is surprisingly good. very good food as well as wine list and a really fun bar where the full dinner menu is also available.

Lastly, we also like the River Ranch. It is located near Alpine Meadows. Good food, service and wine list. Ask to be seated by the windows and you will have a lovely view of the Truckee river. Enjoy, that is a beautiful time to be in the Sierras.

If it isn't too far for you to drive (especially after some great wine), I recommend Le Bistro in Incline Village, a restaurant we make an "annual pilgrimmage" to each summer. It's closed Sunday and Monday.

By San Francisco Bay Area (or anywhere) standards, this chef-owned and -operated French restaurant is superb and very fair priced for top-notch ingredients and cooking.
