Must find Jackfruit Veggie-meat!

I visited a great veggie place in LA over the weekend (Pure Luck) and really dig their versions of BBQ and burritos made with jackfruit. Anyone know where it can be found, anywhere between Napa and San Francisco? I think I'd prefer the canned or frozen versions as the fresh sounded like a lot of sticky, messy prep. Opinions on whether canned or frozen is better would also be welcome!
Cheers :)

  1. Are you looking for a product using jackfruit that is then altered to be like "veggie-meat" (like Yves veggie ground round) or frozen/canned jackfruit? If you're looking for the latter, most larger Asian markets carry jackfruit both frozen and canned.

I think what I had was unaltered, definitely not ground-up looking. It did have "pork" look, some chunks, some stringier bits. Would Ranch 99 be the go-to, yet again?

        That would be mine. :o)

This Los Angeles poster suggests that green jackfruit is used. Is that was is in the cans or frozen?

Hmm... I don't remember if I've seen the green frozen, but I can't imagine not finding it in the can...

Oh, my tummy is so needing faux carnitas! That recipe sounds perfect but somehow I was thinking that canned jackfruit would already be cooked and further cooking would reduce it to mush? I'm going to have to leave early tomorrow to make sure I have time to hit Ranch 99. I'll post the results, however they may turn out!
