Michael Mina's XIV Gamut # 2 - Perceptor's Report

Perceptor Jul 9, 2009 02:50 PM

it has been 6 months since my wife and I conquered our 36 course gamut dinner at XIV... there definitely have been some changes at XIV... the menu is very different now.. it is no longer $8 per ala carte and they don't force the entire table to get an order of something 1 person ordered.. now the menu is priced like a normal menu... yes you CAN still do the 8/11/14 course traditional XIV experience and the gamut is there available, even though it is not shown on the menu... just have to request it... the gamut is still $250 to taste every single item on the menu....this time i brought another person to split the gamut 3 ways.... quite a value $250/3 each to taste every thing on the menu... although it is no longer 36 courses, it is still a gut busting 29 courses.. it was perfect to split with 3 people...

another big change is their amazing cheese and dessert creations from before are now much toned down.. i assume they had to tone it down because not everyone appreciated Jordan Kahn's out of this world creativity.. no more grated frozen blue cheese and no more white chocolate box... i definitely miss it...

in total, we had a fantastic evening there... the service was still top notch and the passion from the staff was still very apparent... the food was still very good just a notch toned down from before...

Enjoy my gamut coverage:

    Hi Perceptor,

Great Photo Report as usual. :) I'm glad to see that there are still some of the same items from opening night.

    How was the Kobe Burger?

And Jordan's desserts still look amazing! :) But I'm sad the White Chocolate Box is gone as well.

the burger was excellent... i wanted a adult size of that one for sure... the fries were great too (how can it be bad it was fried in duck fat)

How would the "gamut" menu fair with 4 people? Can't think of many "third-wheels" I would invite ;)

looks great! quick question...is the 8 course "light meal" something that will satisfy me for dinner? just the name scares me off....

i know this is an older post - so you may not see this.

first - great report! i love your photos. thanks for sharing.

second - if you get the gamut, did each of you share one dish - or is it $250/each person? i was just a bit confused by that.

i can't wait to try this place, the food looks yummy.

The original review above says $250 divided between three people.
