Hey foodies, I have a great big female Ginkgo tree in my backyard. She is very prolific, so I get lots of the stinky, stinky fruit all over my backyard. To me, the mess and the stench is a huge nuisance, and even makes my backyard unusable for 6 weeks or so every fall.

But... One man's nuisance is another's gold, and inside each of those smelly fruits is a great Asian delicacy -- the Gingko nut, with all its cooking and medicinal uses (its even an aphrodesiac!).

I also understand that fresh Ginkgo nuts are hard to find in stores, so here is my offer: If you're so inclined, they can ALL be yours. we're talking exclusive access! There is one condition: you have to take them ALL, and you have to come regularly to do so. Any takers? Located in Oak Park.

(p.s., I am also interested in other suggestions for getting rid of them, such as if you know a way to advertise this offer to an Asian ethnic community that might jump at it.)

Have you found any takers? I live in Chicago (Roscoe Village) and have the same issue with a Ginkgo tree in my front yard. I would love to have someone come take the nuts.

Thanks.

My tree is in the front of the house, so you wouldn't be coming into my yard to get them. The nuts are stinky little orange things. Take them all! I'm tired of tracking them into my house.

I had found a female ginko tree in my neighbour, where they are actually outlawed, but it has not produced any fruit this year. Being of asian heritage, I have found them extrmely useful in congree preparations. I wonder if you could just haul them to a herbalist, and offer to trade them for something else, like dried shitakes? I"d take 'em, but Canada border services might smell the stash....
