Cafe Krishna in Chandler (PHX)

bortukan Jul 9, 2009 10:13 AM

I had dinner at the new Cafe Krishna in Chandler last night, and really enjoyed it! The menu looked like any other dosa-serving place in town, but both my dosai and the three sauces that came with it seemed much more flavorful than I've had elsewhere. The item I ordered (Special Rava Masala Dosai), billed as "spicy," actually was, both in terms of hotness and complexity. Portions were huge, too-- were I not currently pregnant and roughly the size of Maine, I doubt I'd have been able to finish mine. I definitely plan to go back and try other items, as I live close by.

The restaurant is vegetarian (I'm not, but my vegetarian friend was very excited to be able to order anything on the menu for once). The menu lists other things besides the dosa, but they seem to be a specialty and I didn't see anyone there having anything else. Decor is pretty standard, with booths and a few decorative items on the walls. Service was friendly but a little rough (we were asked how our food was by a different person every 10 minutes), but for a new, inexpensive place it was fine. Their current menu is at http://www.cafekrishnaaz.com/. Prices aren't online, but I remember most entrees being a little under $10.

Thanks for the recommendation. I stopped by for lunch yesterday and liked it. The vegetarian dishes and dosas are a nice break from the standard Indian buffet. Everything I tried was quite good, I'll definitely return. Lunch buffet is just under $10 with tax.
