Quick Visit
we'll be spending an overnight in Chicago (actually staying at the Ohare Hilton) and would appreciate recommendations for an Italian or avant-garde dinner (e.g., Moto)...our limitation is that we'll use the train to get downtown and would most likely stay north or near north for our dinner...mahalo nui for the ideas

I don't think that's much of a limitation at all. Alinea and Avenues would be the easiest to reach via public transportation . . . you'd just need to change from the Blue Line L train to the Red or Brown Line (for Avenues and Alinea, respectively). Moto might require a short cab ride, but not a big deal. It's a 10-minute walk from the Grand St. Blue Line station (the one that connects O'Hare to Downtown). If you want high end Italian, Spiaggia is also accessible from O'Hare (Blue Line downtown, Red Line north to Chicago/State, walk or very short cab ride). For transportation tips, Google Maps includes Chicago public transportation and trip planning, and transitchicago.com provides the same info. If you will need to take a bus, ctabustracker.com is great because it tells you how many minutes you will have to wait for the next bus.
