High-end restaurant in easy walking distance of Times Square?

Prosperous and discerning out-of-town visitors will be taking me out for dinner in the fall (plenty of time for reservations). They have taken me to Per Se, and clearly enjoy/can afford that kind and style of restaurant; also, they love wine. I think of EMP and Veritas, except that the only request they made is location.

Suggestions are very welcome.

  1. Insieme, Le Bernardin come to mind.

    1. I don't think Insieme is high end enough. Le Bernardin, certainly. Other options: Jean Georges, Adour Alain Ducasse, Gordon Ramsay at the London, L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon.

      1. What do you think about the Modern? It's at the far end of easy walking distance. Is it in that very special category?

Ooh, I completely forgot to include The Modern. Yes, the formal dining room's cuisine is spectacular! Chef Gabriel Kreuther deservedly received this year's James Beard Award for Best Chef NY.

        2. Anthos?
L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon is a good choice too, but if they can walk to 57th, why not suggest going back to the Time Warner Centre and go to Masa? (only if they are REALLY prosperous though)

          1. it's not on the same level as le bernardin and jean georges but bar americain is pretty damn solid and right at the top of times square...
