Top 10 dishes in Manhattan?

What have you've eaten recently (or not so recently) that stood out to you, for any reason? For example, a friend will not stop talking about the Redhead's bacon brittle; I was taken by surprise (in the best way) by Locanda Verde's sheep's milk ricotta. I've been gone for a while- please get me back in the loop! Thanks in advance.

  1. I can't say top ten ... but I've really liked the BBQ rib sandwich at Momofuku Ssam. And the porchetta sandwich at Salumeria Rosi was porky deliciousness at its best.

    1. 3 dishes at Gotham Bar &Grill:
      - yellowfin tuna tartare
      - grilled octopus
      - meyer lemon pudding

      all outstanding. the tartare and octopus were just about the best i've ever had of either preparation. a truly memorable meal.

        We keep trying to get to their prix fixe lunch - maybe some Friday when my husband can get out early from work.

          do you mean the "Anniversary Lunch?" unfortunately the menu is completely different so none of the dishes i mentioned are available for it, but both the roasted black plum salad and the asparagus salad sound wonderful! if you do go, & you try the trio of sorbets for dessert, see if they have the kaffir lime sorbet. we had some with the meyer lemon pudding and it was excellent.

            Hmm - it's been a while since I've looked at the menu - we've checked it a couple of times on our way the USQ for the farmer's market and just noticed a well priced lunch prix fixe.

          i'm surprised to hear the Matsugen shrimp tempura on the list...i went there for the first time last week...i liked the restaurant a lot and loved my inaka soba and i will definitely return there, but the shrimp tempura was mediocre that night...off night?

            Hi Simon, glad to hear you went last week. Did you order the prix-fixe menu?
            Perhaps it's because we went on the earlier side of dinner service (think 6pm) that the tempura shrimp arrived crisp and piping hot from the fryer. I was pleased by the size of the shellfish, as well. I feel like other places tend to skimp on quality.

        2. WD-50 = Eggs Benedict, Momofuko Ko = Fluke in buttermilk (too bad you cant order that at one of Changs other places), El Faro = seafood paella...for dessert go with WD-50 = hazelnut tart

            --oyster pan roast, the John Dory
            --agree with the eggs Benedict, WD-50
            --Momofuku Milk Bar's candy bar pie
            --Minetta Black Label Burger
            --kale Caesar salad, Back Forty
            Wasn't wildly impressed with the bacon brittle at the Redhead, although I like the place a lot.

                what is the dressing like?...i've found that most NY restaurants serve up ranch-style glop (w/ none of the crucial ingredients like Worcestire, garlic, raw egg, and anchovy)...

                Some geat recent dishes have been ... Gotham Bar and Grill- Lobster, Soft shell crab, souffle, Gotham Chocolate cake, Smores

                    -dark chocolate molasses sponges at lilac chocolatier
                    -hirata buns at ippudo

                    1. I rarely see this place mentioned on here, but I definitely get cravings for the Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake at Stand on 12th St.

                        I've only had it once, and now you are inducing cravings! I've been thinking of heading down to the Strand - so maybe I'll head to Stand too.

                        And - I agree with sam1 about the peace passage oysters at Yasuda.

                          i just heard about that milkshake on the "Sugar Rush" episode of "Best Thing I Ever Ate" the other night - it's Michael Symon's favorite dessert. it had me *drooling!*
