Fun, hip restaurant / 19th and 5th (or north of) for son's 22nd birthday. Prince range isnt really an issue; neither is cuisine.

Devi, Sala 19, Boqueria, Mesa Grill and Rosa Mexicano are all reasonably close.

Second Boqeria for tapas, Rosa Mexicano for the guac and margaritas, and Mesa Grill for Bobby F.

How many people is this for? Boqueria does take reservations for larger groups.

        I Trulli
John Dory (if you are willing to go west of 5th)
        Bar Stuzzichini
        Peryali (not exactly "hip" though)

I would not recommend Rosa Mexicano and I also don't think Mesa Grill is particularly exciting.

However, I went (reluctantly in my own mind) to Mesa Grill with some under-30s, andit was decent though expensive, and it was very enjoyable to see them enjoying what they perceived as the specialness and festiveness of it. So I would say, it depends how important having what we would view as outstanding food, versus experience/atmosphere for the 22 year old at the center of the event.

I have to agree with yebo on that. The food is nothing special but I can say the margaritas are great and the atmosphere is fun.

I've only been to Pranna for their spring cocktail party where I was brusquely edged away from the bar by the throngs. I've been meaning to go back with a group of friends as I did like the couple appetizers I tried and was excited to find young Desis in NYC outside of business school.

Might be a little mature but Almond could be a good hit right over there... Not necessarily sure how 'fun' that is though. Bar Stuzzichini gets my vote as well.
