        Update to today though...it's been sold. The new owner is renovating the floors above as living space for their family and hiring in family members and laying off current workers so they can be replaced. This is from someone I know that works there...

        1. I remember the original market, and the fire, and staring at the devastation afterwards. If memory serves, it was the subject of one of the original 48 Hours shows, back when 48 hours really was about a 48-hour period and a single story....

              The link that started this thread doesn't seem to work anymore, and no amount of googling has turned up the story on the Moth's site or on WGBH's - anyone have a link that works? Thanks!

                Revisiting this thread: The Moth replayed this piece on its podcast, because Ming passed away recently. You can find it on iTunes ("The Moth Podcast") or at this link.
