Breakfast and Cocktails in Westwood

honkman Jul 7, 2009 10:07 PM

No, I'm not looking for cocktails for breakfast but two different things.
This weekend we are doing one of our regular trips from San Diego to LA to visit a few restaurants. This time we are staying at a new hotel and don't know the area around. We are staying at the Hotel Palomar (Wilshire Blvd/Selby Ave). We will have a lot of food in the night (Mozza, Providence, Animal) so we are looking for places for light breakfast/bakery preferably within walking distance of the hotel.
We also often like to end the night after dinner with a nice cocktail. Are there any good cocktailbars in this area (doesn't have to within walking distance) ? Or are there any not-to- miss cocktailbars close any of the three restaurants ?

For a walkable breakfast I recommend Mary & Robb's on Westwood Blvd. just south of Wilshire. The Los Angeles Menu Pages link below has a menu for them. You can walk through the local neighborhood if you don't want to go down Wilshire to Westwood - just go south on Selby until it turns into Ohio and go west to Westwood Blvd. and then turn N (right) to the cafe.

We almost always just have our cocktail at the restaurant we are eating at, (although Animal is only wine and beer) when and where possible. What sort of crowd are you looking for? I mean the Rainbow Bar & Grill in W. Hollywood always rang my chimes, but YMMV.

In that case, the Edison in downtown gets a lot of positive comments on the LA board. We haven't been so I can't vouch for it personally.

The W Hotel in Westwood is probably the best place for cocktails; certainly better than the Palomar!

Both bars at The W in Westwood are really the best and only choice. The Palamar's bar is not active but the hotel is nice. Sort of a poor mans W.

I like the bar at the Palomar, and even the bar food, and sometimes stop there for a drink at the end of the day. It is quiet and comfortable, so if that is not what you are looking for, you might try elsewhere.
