Blu Bambu in Boca Raton

Has anyone tried Blu Bambu Vietnamese Restaurant in Boca Raton (located in Royal Palm Plaza)? It's a tiny little restaurant tucked away behind the Sushi place. I am no expert on Vietnamese cuisine but my experience was outstanding. Went there for dinner--all of the dishes were very nicely prepared and nicely spiced. Service was excellent. I noticed that they serve Banh Mi for lunch but have not yet had the pleasure.

Would love to hear some other feedback.

  1. My daughter and I dined at Blu Bambu for dinner a few weeks ago and we were VERY disappointed. The owner could not have been more gracious and it looked like it had a small loyal following. The problem was that they used frozen vegetables for their dishes. The sauce was good, but I could not get past the fact that the veggies were lifeless and tasteless. A very big let down. Prices were moderate.

First thanks for dining with us that night at the Blu bambu and also about the comment about frozen vegetables.Usually we always served fresh vegetables in our restaurant, but that night we run out of fresh vegetables ,so we have to substitute with frozen ones. We're sorry about that. And we want to assure you ,this will not happen again.Best regards

Why would you even have frozen vegetables in the kitchen and how hard is it to run out and grab some fresh vegetables when you see you are running low?

    2. This place is very well hidden and I'm glad to have stumbled upon it. We had baby back ribs, lamb curry and a beef dish. All amazing. We talked about it for days. Excellent wines. Highly recommended.

      1. I went to Blu Bambu a couple of months ago. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon it by accident, really, and we were lucky to do so! We started with Suon Nuong, which are braised baby back ribs with spicy cucumber dipping sauce, which were FANTASTIC! I then had the Pho Bo- Beef pho soup, which was outstanding. Not everyone does Pho well, but Blu Bambu does! We also like the intimate size and chic decor of the restaurant. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. We plan to go back for our anniversary.
P.S. On the comment about the frozen vegetables- well, it happens. My cousin owned a restaurant and they had to have back up on hand in case they ran out. Would it be better if they were just completely out of the dish? I always go to a restaurant 2 to 3 times before judging them because its the only way to get a real impression.

" Would it be better if they were just completely out of a dish?" Uh.... yes. If you can't make the dish properly, then you don't make it. Have you never been in a restaurant when they said that a dish was no longer available that evening? I don't want a restaurant to serve me an inferior version of a dish, just explain to me it is unavailable and I will order something else they would be proud to serve. Glad you enjoyed your meal.

It's been about a year since the Great Frozen Vegetable Disaster of 2009. They've since take the time to log on and apologize. That's something that mega-overrated dumps like Michael's Genuine would never, ever bother to do.

I've been to Blue Bambu many times and have never been disappointed. They really do have some amazing dishes. I believe this place is still Boca's best kept secret and it's a shame that one screw-up should get all the press.

I don't disagree with you, one screw up should not doom a restaurant. I'm not a fan of Vietnamese cuisine and I'm not a Boca regular, but locals should check the place out. On the other hand I could not disagree with you more about Michael's Genuine. It is by no means a dump and while it may not be consistently great it is excellent with some awesome dishes. The last brunch I ate there was near perfect. But hey, that is why we have this board right, to exchange ideas, opinions and find great food. Enjoy.

This is good to know, I'm going to drag my guy there! We loved the place in Margate (name escapes me) but it's too far to drive for when we have a sudden craving for Vietnamese.

They are by far the best Vietnamese I have had in South Florida, got me the craving also

They are good but don't forget Vietnamese Express Cafe off of Northlake Blvd on US1! That's my go-to place when I need a Viet fix.

Yes, VEC in NPB is definitely my go to place since I live within 5 miles. Now this Saigon Cuisine looks very nice from their website but is too far for me.

I don't believe they compare but you'd have to come down and try it.
