BBQ Shop (Memphis) - Review

So on the advice of the Hounds, on a recent trip to Memphis I visited the BBQ Shop. Great recommendation!! I've never been to the Commissary, so I can't compare the two, but I was very satisfied with the food and loved that it wasn't a tourist place.

We started off with onion rings - excellent by any standard. Three of us (myself included) ordered pulled pork - I got the sandwich, my companions got the plate. The plate had a TON of meat on it - plenty to share in my opinion. The sandwich was perfect for one person. Loved the pulled pork and both types of sauces. It is vinegar based as others have noted, which I liked but I think my companions prefer the sweeter kind. I also sampled the BBQ spaghetti, which I did not like, but I'm glad I tried it! Sweeter and smokier than what I expected - but not bad, just not my thing. The fourth member of our group ordered the ribs, and we were all immediately sorry that we had not also ordered the ribs. WOW. WOW. WOW. They may have been the best ribs I've ever had. They slide easily off the bone and were just perfect in every way. The slaw I was also impressed with - more flavor depth than your typical slaw. The baked beans were good but I would have preferred a bit thicker and with a little more of a kick. I would have liked to try the BBQ nachos, but we had to draw the line somewhere, LOL. An added bonus was that the bar there has Yuengling, which we can't typcially get in New Orleans, so that was cool.

Overall a fantastic experience - highly recommended - will definitely return! Thanks hounds!
