Least Offensive Cheap Cupcakes

I feel especially sheepish posting this since someone just asked about the best cupcakes, but oh well. My daughter is turning 4 and I am just looking to pick up some cupcakes for her preschool class. As such, I don't really want to spend a lot of money since they won't appreciate it, but I was wondering if any of the local grocery store chains had cupcakes that were marginally less offensive than the other chains' offerings. As you can imagine, I'm not inclined to hold a taste test myself. It doesn't have to be a grocery store; it could be an independent shop (I'm in Bellevue) as well, but price is certainly going to be considered.

Also, before someone suggests this: if i wanted cheap and good, I would normally just bake them myself, but her school doesn't allow home baked goods. Allergies and such.

Little Debbie's Orange/Cranberry cupcakes are actually pretty good. I have a hard time fing them however. I've not tried the banana nut, which are more readily available.

Costco and Sam's club sell big flats of cupcakes with sprinkles-- the price is pretty amazing-- around $12 for 30. The ones from Costco are pretty good (better than Safeway et. al)

I was surprised by the (gasp!) vegan mini cupcakes from PCC. They were seriously tasty and I am overly judgemental when it comes to baked goods. Especially 'healthy' ones. Bring on the lard and HFCS I say, but these delivered in the taste department.

Check them out. I think they're ~$4 for a pack of 12 mini cupcakes. And the mini size might be good for the little kids. Of course, I ate three...

Don't feel bad about your request, I too am searching for the same thing.
I love my daycare but they have very strict restrictions on what can be brought in to the building. If it doesn't have a printed ingredient list, it's not allowed inside...and no home cooking allowed.

Went to Fred Meyer for same reason, beautiful pastel colored cupcakes at reasonable prices and I have to say they tasted pretty good and were hit with the kiddos and parents alike. Good luck.
