berri's playa cafe in playa del rey
has just changed owners but the staff, the recipes, the purveyors, etc. will remain the same.
too bad, because i really would have loved a decent source of restaurant food to be available in that space. looks like it won't happen in this lifetime. . . .
They do what I consider to be a quite good goat cheese and portobello mushroom pizza. And I like the coconut shrimp appetizer with tamarind sauce, albeit some people would find it over the top in fat content. (I like the lack of thick breading and concentration on coconut and shrimp.)
Definitely no fan of their salads.
all i know is that when i went there with a party of 8 people, who ordered a number of different items, not one person wanted to return ever again.
two of the people, who ordered pizza, started to scrape off the toppings hoping to find that either the toppings or the crust by itself would turn out to be edible; one of those declared that the crust was edible and proceeded to eat just the crust, the other person left it all.
i stupidly ordered something with fish. the fish was old and smelled and should never have been served.
Hmm... well, while we're fine with the items I mentioned, I don't venture off that list.
One can hope you were there on some terribly off night, but I wouldn't want to go back after that experience either. (The Minotaure is at least nearby for tapas. :O For seafood, we just venture to Centinela for Mariscos Chente these days - wonderfully fresh. Still would LOVE other seafood options nearby, but alas.)
