sunday brunch at restaurant x & bully boy bar
I understand that it is quite an elaborate and time consuming affair. Has anyone tried?

Yes-and my entire party of 6 will NEVER go back. Just a very bad overall experience. Check other theads for details from myself and others-and there are CH'ers that had good times so it is just a matter of taste and your experience on what ever given day you go.

A friend and serious foodie went there recently for the champagne brunch and said it was so off the charts he couldn't believe it was only $38 per person. In all they served twenty-two courses. There were approximately 4 seafood dishes, lamb chops, a few egg dishes, pasta, and a bevy of desserts. I have yet to find a Sunday to make it over there, but it's on my to-do list.

I've been several times, most recently last month. It is amazing--tableside service of course after course including fresh fruits, caesar salad, rack of lamb, beef, fish, shellfish, pasta, eggs benedict, smoked salmon on a bagel, desserts, coffee and unlimited champagne/mimosas/kir royales--all for just $38!

We had a great experiences there for brunch! The brunch is like no other brunch that I have experienced. Like Jhopp said over 20 courses ranging from eggs benedict to lamb. I think they hit everything from salad, vegetables, ham, pork, pasta, fish, shellfish, chicken, beef, lamb, sides and more. All very high quality. Also unlimited champagne, mimosas and kir royals and a tableful of desserts. All this is brought to you tableside one or two things at a time and usually accompanied by a side. Figure $50/person with tax and tip and allow about 3 hours. It is really worth trying for yourself.

It has been one of my greatest sunday brunch experiences. Normally, when one goes for a buffet brunch it is uncivilized, quick, and expensive, not to mention borderline unsanitary.....
Coming here for brunch is civilized, relaxing, slow paced, delicious, reasonably priced filling, and fun experience. I won't recount the process here, but the unlimited champagne (prosecco) makes it an incredible steal.
I love it and recommend the experience it without qualification.

"Normally, when one goes for a buffet brunch it is uncivilized, quick, and expensive, not to mention borderline unsanitary....." becasue that is exectly how it was for us.
Was NOT " brunch is civilized, relaxing, slow paced, delicious, reasonably priced filling, and fun experience."
As I posted in detail in another thread, there were serous problems with both front and back of house the Sunday we went.
And none of them were addressed-either while there or later.
I my experiences, the only one of Chef Kell'y's places that I have never had or heard of problems is the one in piermont.

It's too bad you had a bad experience........ Maybe you should give it another shot?
Too many people love it... but it is a day long experience. It started at 1 and ended at 4. I didn't eat any other meals on the days I went there.......
There are two Peter Kelly restaurants in Piermont: Xaviars, and Freelance Cafe. Xaviars is quite formal. Freelance is more laid back, but very tiny and no reservations, so I tend not to go there unless it is an off-time.

FD-;>)-I was refering to Xaviars.
As for going back: We all had gone there with rather the bar set rather high having eaten there at least once, or in a few cases at least twice. Most of us also have been to Xaviars as well.
None of us feel any need to go back for any numbers of reasons including the total break-down in front end service and back end prep and failure of any one of the managers, front or back end to take the time to talk to us when asked or to return e-mails.
Add to the pile that there are so many other places to go, old , new, known and unknown, why go back?
I have nothing against Chef Kelly-just that just about anyone I know has had less that great experiences recently in most of his places.

Btw, It's Frequent "Diner" not Frequent "Dinner". I only eat dinner generally once per day like the rest of you.

The brunch here used to be fantastic but yes, it has really taken a turn for the worse. Maybe Chef Kelly (whom I like very much) just has more restaurants than he can handle right now, and Restaurant X is suffering from his lack of personal attention. The menu items are the same but the execution is poor. All the pasta was gummy and the service was pretty bad. They were trying, they just seemed like they had no leadership and had not been trained.
So yes, it is still elaborate and time-consuming, but not in the fun way it used to be. The place is missing the warmth and sense of welcome it had in the past. Very sad and kind of depressing. I hope that with a little work, Chef Kelly can turn this place around.
In the meantime, i would recommend having brunch at X2O.
