Cochrane AB.... Where to eat?
I am meeting my friend who is coming through Cochrane. We don't know anything about Cochrane. Can anyone please advise where is a good place for lunch?
Based on old posts, if no one answered, we figured we would try Poco Loco Pizza.

I highly recommend Portofino Italian Ristorante (located at 18 205 1st Street East, directly across from Holy Spirit Catholic School). High quality food, flavourful, and excellent service (although I haven't been there in a year or so). They usually have some sort of lunch special, too. In the same building complex, there's also Coto, a Japanese/sushi restaurant, which is also excellent, but I'm not sure about the hours during the daytime.
There are lots of places to eat in Cochrane other than Poco Loco! Salt and Pepper (a Mexican restaurant), the Rockyview Saloon (more for the ambiance than the food, though), a couple of Vietnamese places, one Thai place, two Chinese places, one East Indian restaurant, the HQ restaurant beside Mackay's Ice Cream (not sure about the food, as I haven't been there in a while, but they used to specialize in dozens of types of pie), a new-ish bistro called Olive'r Twist, the Blue Dog Cafe (which is a bit inconsistent, but has a nice patio and southern US cuisine)...plus a ton of fast food places scattered around town (ranging from Opa to Subway to Extreme Pita, and so on).

My wife and I ate at the Blue Dog Cafe on Saturday. It was decent for sure. We had calamari to start which was pretty good but the sauce that accompanied it was really good. Fresh tomatoes and herbs, very tasty. She had the flat bread and enjoyed it. I had ribs and thought they were above average. Have seen varying reviews of the Blue Dog on CH but our experience was good. We would go back for sure.

Kemen listed pretty much every single resto out there....
I used to eat at Portofino years ago, if still the same owner or better, then I agree.
The Vietnamese Noodle House (received major food violation fine), has excellent soups.
We had a great dinner at Olive 'r Twist. Not so great at Salt & Pepper.
The Indian resto is in the same complex as Starbucks and we had their lunch buffet twice. Very good as well.

The name escapes me. It's on 5th venue right opposite of Starbucks. I am back out there Wednesday and will check.

I'm a little bit biased on this recommendation, but even though it's my cousin that runs the place, "Guy's Cafe & Bakery" is a great place if you're looking for a lighter lunch fare such as soups, sandwiches and a few main dishes. All of his bread is baked fresh on the premises, and he has a great coffee selection. It's a nice cozy place, and he runs a friendly & efficient staff. It's on 201 Grande Blvd W, , just off of 5 Ave, tucked in behind the ATB.
I'm assuming this is a lunchtime meeting though, because the Cafe isn't open for dinner.

I completely forgot about Guy's Cafe! Friendliest coffee-shop/cafe in town, bar none. And the sandwiches and bread are absolutely delicious.

stopped by The Blue Dog cafe on the way home yesterday for the first time in about 4 yrs. could not remember the experience then. This was certainly less than memorable too. We had 2 cups of the cream of mushroom soup, not sure that this was actually homemade. it was like a cup of heavy bechamel sauce with mushrooms in it. Not a good start. I had the ceasar salad, which was quite good although I had asked for no bacon (got bacon), second time asked for less dressing (lots of dressing!). SO had the quesadilla, thick chick strips with very little of anything else, salsa consisted of diced tomatoes and a few onions, guac was just avocado. everything seemed very void of flavor.
we don't come through cochrane enough to really worry, but we will try Guys Cafe next time for sure.
