Met the parents for dinner at this popular crab house in Reisterstown last night. We ordered a dozen medium at $48 and oysters imperial. We enjoyed the oysters which were mounded with a good crab imperial and roasted. The crabs were nice sized but light, too light. I don't mind so much that crabs have become so expensive but I expect quality. The service was good and the place packed and they happily replaced one crab that was gray and smelled off. Should one ask to return light crabs that taste okay but have very little meat? Reter's seems popular and everybody was eating crabs. Don't they know the difference? Maybe at $48 dozen they don't expect better or maybe the more expensive crabs were better. Maybe this is another place like L.P. Steamers where it is hit or miss or they serve better crabs to regulars. In my opinion the key to a good crab house is consistency. I don't mind paying what I have to but I expect good crabs. If they are not running heavy don't serve them or let the patron know they are light.

Earlier this week I picked up a half dozen cold at Bill's Seafood in Perry Hall for $1 each. Probably more meat for $6 than we got last night for $48.

Reter will replace any crab, as will most crab houses. I paid $84 foor a dozen there on fathers day and was still disapointed by the weight of some crabs. During the week you are more likely to be satisfied. Good eating !
