Really good blueberry pie

I just had to throw out an alleged blueberry pie from Whole Foods (or Whole Fools) because it wasn't even blueberries, more like pink mashed up something or other, very dry, no juiciness around the berries or whatever they were. Absolutely disgusting.

Does anyone know a proper bakery where I can get a REAL blueberry pie? Nice BLUE berries in a correctly sticky and juicy filling, great crumbly crust,..

sorry about your bad experience, whole foods used to carry vermont mystic pie co. (frozen) and they make an excellent apple and blueberry-apple, bake it yourself, a&p now carries it (some stores) and zabars with a very high mark-up or find their web-site for locations/ a former ben & jerry v.p. started this co. w/there backing -excellent pies

Andres Bakery in my nabe (Forest Hills) makes a very good blueberry pie. I would imagine that their upper east side cafe carries it as well.

Wow! I can't believe this post! Funny I should see this - I just had the best blueberry (albeit, cream) pie of my life. (I was never a fan of pies. But, dang! This really opened my eyes). Although you will be disappointed with the location. It's out in Riverhead, Suffolk County, LI. A place called Briermere Farm (briermerefarm.com). Large, ripe, juicy blueberries, great crust and delicious cream. mmm... Granted, it was a blueberry cream pie, and not a blueberry pie, but the next time I'm out there, maybe on the way to Montauge or the Hamptons, definitely doing to take a side trip there. BTW, Riverhead is Exit 72 on the LIE.

head to the Union Square Greenmarket tomorrow, it's probably your best bet in the city...at the very least, whatever you find there is bound to be better than the one from WFM!

Surprisingly enough, not so. I've tried pies at a few stalls, including an Amish one (you'd think, right??), and they've all been sadly deficient. I'm sure there's more sellers, though, so will continue.
Still shocked at the disaster of Whole Foods, though: I've bought blueberry pies there before and they've always been pretty darn good.

Briermere Farms in Riverhead, as newyawka says, has some of the best fruit pies you will ever eat on this earth and the ONLY great fruit pies in the NYC area. I could direct you to excellent or at least decent versions of any and every other baked good known to humankind--but not classic fruit pies. If I were you, I'd buy an Oronoque Orchards crust from the supermarket freezer (good flavor for a shortening crust) and make one. Blueberry's easy since fruit doesn't require peeling, slicing, pitting--anything.
