Tennis Anywhere???

Does anyone know of any bars or restaurants that will be airing Wimbledon over the weekend. Preferably not tourist traps.

  1. being that the finals are billed as "Breakfast at Wimbledon" - 9 a.m. NYC time, I doubt that any bars will be open at that time. Best bet might be a diner with televisions...like Vynl.

Oh, you'd be shocked. I have friends who wake up at 6 a.m. on a Saturday to go to a sports bar to watch certain round football and rugby matches available only over some expensive, rare satellite feed. A lot of pubs charge admission to these; some just make you buy breakfast ... and/or a beer.

AC, according to this website (generally a good resource for this kind of question), it's being broadcast at the Playwright on W. 35th: http://www.wherewewatch.com/events/20...

While that may be true for Saturday, on Sunday, NYC law prohibits the serving of alcoholic beverages in restaurants before noon.

Right. I won't ask how you know that. ;)

            cimui,

I don't drink. I'm just aware of the law.

          2. re: RGR

That law is routinely ignored. I've had very few problems getting a bloody mary with my pre-noon Sunday brunch.

          Thanks pb
I should have been more specific. I am more interested for tomorow's semis 12-5 NYC time.

          Also thanks cimui interesting link.

        3. Opia Restaurant, on the second floor of the renaissance hotel on 57th and lex, shows the matches and serves mimosas etc w/ breakfast. I only know this because my wife had family in town and we met over there for some pancakes (really good BTW) and they had the matches on a big screen - a nice diversion as I don't speak Flemish, and my wife's family does not speak English...

Just saw your 12-5 - - Opia, still a good place.
