Lobster Lovers


My husband and I will be in San Francisco for 1 night. He desires some fabulous, buttery, melt in your mouth Lobster. Here's the catch...he's never tried it. Yes....I know...please help me! I love lobster and want this to be an amazing experience. We are looking for ambiance, and I am looking for the kind of Lobster that steps in as a lucious tempstress for a mercury hater. Cheers.

  1. It's not that easy to get good lobster in San Francisco. Since it'll be his first time, you really want it to be excellent. Two places (expensive) I would trust are: Gary Danko and Michael Mina (his lobster pot pie). Both places use very fresh Maine lobster. I've heard that the lobster tail (frozen, from Australia, I think) at Scoma's is good.

    Actually, I think you should order lobster for yourself (since YOU love it), let him order what he wants, and then give him a portion of your lobster to try.

    1. I think you'll find what you seek at La Folie: their butter-poached lobster was even better than the French Laundry's. Need I say more?

      1. The spiny lobster is a Southern California thing, so you won't find local restaurants featuring them. The dungeness crab is our own crustacean, but I believe they are out of season now.

          That may be true here but there were a lot of lively crabs moving around in the tank at Ranch 99 Richmond on my last visit. . I didn't check their passports.
