Green Flash in Sanibel?

Has anyone tried the Green Flash restaurant? We will be staying in Sanibel for a few days and will be celebrating a birthday. Any other recommendations? Anything worth trying in Fort Myers?

    1. When we were on Captiva last year, the Green Flash was the best of the bad-to-mediocre choices on the island. We also enjoyed the food & drink at Doc Ford's on Sanibel. ( http://www.docfordssanibel.com/ )

        1. The Green Flash is a nice place to enjoy a cocktail looking out over the water. We haven't eaten there.

We had a nice dinner at the Thistle Lodge in Casa Ybel. It's an historic resort with a nice setting on the beach. It would also be good for a drink.

            1. Green Flash is mediocre, imo. It looks out on the bay side of Captiva so it faces east on the water so the Green Flash name is erroneous. No elusive greenflash at sunset here. Old Captiva House at Tween Waters is a lovely restaurant. You can walk across to the beach to see the sunset. Nice menu. http://www.tween-waters.com/Dining.cfm

Thistle Lodge is beautiful. It is located on Sanibel island and is close to the beach as well. It is the most romantic setting on the island. Very good food. http://www.thistlelodge.com/

Sweet Melissa's is also a great place. Probably the best food of the three but no waterfront. It is on Periwinkle and located in an old restaurant site that has been home to about 5 restaurants in the 15 years I've lived here. I always think that is a bad sign, some locations look like they should be great, but restaurant after restaurant close in those spots. Insatiable Appetite has some pictures of it on his blog.

You don't say if this is a group or just two people celebrating. A romantic place to go after dinner or even dinner itself is Dolce Vita, which is close to Sweet Melissas. I am not sure of their entertainment in the summer, but it is a supper club. http://www.dolcevitaofsanibel.com/

Thanks so much everyone for your help. I used many of your recs when we went to Seattle and Portland, and you all were spot on.This is SUCH a helpful site!!

I'm hoping Chee burgerChee burger is still there. I hate to admit it, but I love everything about that hole in the wall. I know you can get a better burger elsewhere, but this place just has class!!!

Cheeburger is still on Sanibel but is in another location. The big round restaurant that was Pippins for 20 years. Cheeburger is in the little shopping area just south of Periwinkle Place.

Okay I'm not sure where to officially post this so here goes.. I will be in Orlando soon and wondered if anyone could tell me of some great restaurants that are moderately priced other than the ones on Disney property? We will be staying at Disney, so if there are some places not too far from there, that would be great!

                            1. re: ferrett1

ferrett, you really need to repost your request as an original post. Very few people looking at a restaurant request for Sanibel are going to respond to a request for Orlando.

Orlando has literally thousands of restaurants. You might give some idea of what hotel you are staying at on the Disney property as they are spread out and also if you have older kids, young kids, no kids, etc.

                              Have fun on your trip.
