"Expand All" not working; clicking on name at bottom of post opens user's posts page
Lately, the "Expand All" function has not worked. On at least ten threads.
Also, when clicking on a user's name to expand a post, instead I'm taken to that user's
profile page.
Happens repeatedly.

Thanks, Melanie. Didn't see that when I looked.

When you're having those problems, look for the Last.FM ad on the page -- there almost certainly will be one -- and click on the grey word 'advertisement' next to it, and you'll get an ad response form. Fill out the comment box to let people know it's interfering with other parts of the page, and click the 'it's broken' ticky box. Perhaps if ad-ops is getting these reports from more than just me, they'll resolve the problem more quickly.

good to know, because it's happening to me, too.

Jacquilynne,
I'm sorry, I don't understand.
Is this problem -- the Expand All function not working, and individual posts not expanding -- an ADVERTISEMENT issue?
How are the ads related to the text not expanding? Just to be clear, this is not a text overlay issue.
I also do not know what you mean by "the Last. FM ad on the page." There is no Last.FM ad. So I cannot follow your directions or remedy in any case.
Perhaps Last.FM ads are regional. It is a UK company. No such ad on the SF Bay Area Chowhound site.
Please advise. Thanks.

I believe it is caused by the ad, yes. I think some scripting in the ad is interfering with the scripts on the rest of the page. I've been watching for the ads pretty closely when the problems appear for me, and it's been very consistent -- if I can't get a reply window, there's a Last.FM ad somewhere on the page, every time. If there's no Last.FM ad, I have no problems.

This is a little different.
It's not that I can't get a reply window, it's that older posts won't open at all.
Additionally, the Expand All Posts command doesn't work at all.
Again, there is no Last.FM ad on any of the Chowhound sites here in my neck of the woods. Other advertisers, of course, but no Last.FM.
So something else is causing the problem. Either another ad, or the
problem has a different source.

The expanding posts issues, the reply window issues, and the drop down menu issues have been all the same problem in my experience.
Are you having the problem every single time or just some of the time when you open a thread? Can you keep an eye on which ads you are seeing on the page (both the top banner ad and the side square ads) when you have the problem and let me know?

Problem seems pretty much fixed, Jacquilynne. Thanks.
I did click on the Stella Artois advertisement link and
filled it out as you indicated. Hopefully things will stay
corrected.
Appreciate your help.

Hrmm, I have no reason to believe there's any problems with the Stella ads. Are you seeing a pattern with those particular ads appearing on the pages when you're having difficulties?
I'm not convinced the Stella ads or any ads were the cause of the problem. But of course I have limited information on scripts and coding of the ads and of Chowhound pages. The problem I cited occurred on many pages.

It may be that you're having different difficulties than everyone else, but it sure sounds like the same problem. If you're not sure it's ads, though, reporting them won't help and might hurt -- I just asked people to report the last.fm ad, because I have been able to pretty strongly tie the problems in with those ads.
If you do run into the problem again, please jot down which ads are appearing in both the top banner above the name of the site and along the right hand side and let me know. Thanks!

Will do.

What does FM stand for?
It's a UK-based radio service, as in FM radio.
Jacquilynne may see their ads because she's in Canada. But no such ads here on the West Coast.

they're here in mid-atlantic virginia.

Having the same problem but intermittently. I'm in Canada.

i've had the same intermittent problem for a few days. no FM ad here, the top banner's a cbs sports dot com ad, for me. i'm in the midwest/msp. also the reply box does not open sometimes, but often will when i leave the thread and then re-try.
annoying but not the end of the world. thanks for working on it.

Crap! That damn FM ad is now on my Chowhound page. The damn ad has spread like kudzu across North America.
I just got stopped dead in my tracks trying to reply to a post.
Jacquilynne, if this ad is causing such widespread problems, then WhyTF
don't you get rid of it till you fix it? It's a no brainer.

Yeah. I've been paying attention and every single time that ad shows up reply, report, etc doesn't work. Worse, I tried clicking on advertisement to report it and that unreadable text you are supposed to key ... if you get it wrong it screws up my computer further.

Hi, Maria,
I've found a solution, provided you're a Firefox user. See here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/6285...
It's been smooth sailing since I blocked the Last.FM ads' domain yesterday. Everything -- expand post, expand all, report, reply, dropdown menus, etc. -- works without a hitch.

I'm writing to you now, newly freed from the tyranny of ads.
That was so easy. Dang. And the clean visuals on webpages
are lovely to behold, unsullied by crass capitalism.
Everything working perfectly.
Carswell, you are the hero of the day!
Love that techno geekness of yours.

I've asked that they suspend the ad until the issues can be resolved, but it seems to be a bit of a process, unfortunately. I really do feel the pain on this, because as a moderator, I have even more drop downy windows and javascript bits that I use constantly, and they're all broken when that ad is on the page, as well.

I've had this same issue but it is only when the Last FM ads are present. It happened this morning and the Last FM ad was at the top of the page and an ad for the movie Up was on te right side. I'm in Nashville.

It's happening to me (Boston area) with Last.FM but at other times as well, for a week now. Neither refreshing the page nor closing the whole site and getting back on make a difference. Mostly the problem pages will work on another day, but then there are new ones with the same problem.
