Sugar Shack (associated with Sugarcreek Restaurant) at Whalebone Junction on the bypass (right past the turn to Hatteras as the road bends to the right towards Manteo) sells fresh local fish and shellfish to go. They will also steam/fry to order. For crabs try Danielsat the bridge over to Manteo, almost under the bridge on the right. Its a true shack, with pickers in a side room. Fresh and local. I think they just do crabs.

Don't know Nags Head meat vendors. There is a higher-end market up in Duck - Tommy's - that supposedly does nice meat and seafood.

We're in Nags Head this week (also from Philly) and we went to Austin's Seafood Market (near mile post 12). Good selection and pretty good prices.

thanks phillyray, good to know about the prices as well. did you happen to get beef or pork anywhere? I am wondering if the local food lion is fine for those things?

We brought a lot of stuff with us, but we bought things like milk, eggs, etc at Food Lion. I never saw the meat dept there. This site might help though. It was on the rental company's website...

Why would you go to Food Lion when you can go here?

looks great! it is a little far from our rental in Nags Head. How long do you think it would take?

                  I think it's about a 15-20 minute drive.
