Need recs for a special bday dinner

  • 2

So my gf is taking me out for my birthday this Saturday night. We have reservations at Bazaar but the more I read about this place, the more hesitant I become about actually going there. I get the feeling that this place just tries too hard to be different with their food to the point of becoming gimmicky and not actually executing most of their dishes really well. A lot of reviews also seem to state that the portions are so small, you really don't get what you pay for.

So I'm wondering if we should cancel our reservations and go somewhere else where the food will be the real highlight. We love Providence but just went there a few weeks ago. Lucques is also one of my favorites but have already been there and would rather try something new. Should we keep our reservation and give Bazaar a try or do you guys recommend someplace else to celebrate my birthday?

The last two restaurants I visited were Bazaar and Rivera. Go to Bazaar; it's truly special. Contrary to the reviews you read, I expected to spend 50-100% more than what the bill came out to be. Quite reasonable, though having 4 people helped enhance the variety. Definitely get some authentic dishes and some modern ones; it's not that it's gimmicky, it's just that too many modern dishes diminishes the specialness of it all. Like that new restaurant concept where the menu is street food from around the world...
