Best crab roll from Boston to NH and southern Maine?

Will be in Boston area in mid July. Looking for the best crab roll within a daytrip ride.

They had them at Connolly Seafood in Gloucester when I was there, and I was told by locals it was a regular thing. Nice, rich roll, but untoasted! (I had the lobster roll; nom, nom, nom...)

Love it or hate it I had a wonderful, yummy crab salad at Legal's at the airport last year. I'm sure they have it in a roll too.

I was going to mention Legal's crab sandwich as well. Quite good at the Braintree location.

Crabs really aren't our thing up here... lobster and clams are what we do best... but I see youv'e already gotten some great responses along those lines. Do you mean like a fried soft shell crab roll?

My last trip to New England 2 years ago I had great crab rolls at Yankee Lobster in Boston and Mariners Grill in Camden Maine. Not sure if soft or hard shell.

Was it something like a lobster roll, with shredded crab meat and some sort of dressing? Or was it fried?

It was very much like a cold lobster roll. Lumped crabmeat held together with a little mayonaise. Yummy. In some ways maybe tasted better than a lobster roll if that is possible.
