Daddy Joe's Smokehouse - Colleyville
This is at the 121/Glade location of the old Cowboys BBQ that died a very quick and recent death. Has anyone been brave enough to give the new ownership/food a try?
2 weekends ago, I did. Not really my idea, but when you live nearby and a couple of neighbors decide to give it a try, well..... I have to say I expected the interior decor to be unchanged. In fact, based on the cloaked nature of Cowboy's demise, I really was expecting the same everything. I had a sneaky suspision that the only change was strictly a name change. I was wrong. Same floor plan, but totally new design, attitude, service level and food quality - at least from this one outting. Another thing that surprised me a bit is that the man pointed out to be the owner never came around to welcome any of the 7 or 8 tables that had diners seated. I found that odd - brand new business, bad karma on the location, Father's Day @ 1:00 pm and not an abundance of customers - I'd have been busting my butt to be welcoming to each and every patron hoping that they'd go home to tell 2 people favorable things.
Anyway, until I've been there another time or 2, I'm going to withhold specific judgement on the food except to say, all at my table had pork which as I said, was an improvement over the prior establishment. Next visit.... beef. I will say without hesitation that the peach cobbler was OUTSTNDING! It was a real cobbler, not the stuff that's fruit with a layer of pie dough on top.
By their hours, I suspect that they are wanting to be a social destination as much or more than a bbq joint.
