Urban farming

Yeah, so it's big in the news, and every US city seems to have chickens galore. So I was wondering, naturally, if there's a bylaw against it in Montreal.

Not allowed. I read about it on this local montreal site that links to a NYTimes and a New Yorker article about raising chickens in the city...

My opinion is to do it and pay off any potential complaining neighbours with fresh eggs!

I have an Iranian friend whose father had some goats and chickens in their DDO backyard. But not for very long.

Somehow, I highly doubt that in a city that forbids food stalls, backyard chickens would be allowed. ;-) Also, as bylaws differ from borough-to-borough, your best bet on a firm answer is to contact your borough office directly or even easier, to call the city's info hotline, 311.

Information and general services: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
