I know this sounds like a silly question, but I’m looking for some suggestions where I can buy some really good and different burger buns, I don’t really want the ones in the grocery store isles as in my opinion they rarely hold up to a good burger, I know that most of the good burger joints get most of there buns custom made by some one like pantidossi, ( I will check them out)

I and a few friends are having a burger cook off this weekend, and as you can tell I want to win, I’m even grinding my own meat, so with the better bun it should be a done deal

I forgot that there will be a slice of Borsain cheese in the middle of the burger for the wow factor, LOL

    1. you can get some nice brioche rolls at Iggy's on Fawcett St. in Cambridge - those are our favorites for homemade burgers - good luck!

          Do you have a bread machine? I was actually thinking of making dough in my machine and baking my own hamburger buns. Since you are grinding your own meat doing this as well will really impress!

              thanks but no bread machine, and whats more need them to work and do not trust myself to try that , LOL

                Iggy's brioche rolls are quite good, and their large french rolls work well with burgers, too.

                • Savenor's on Charles Street also has some delicious brioche rolls. I've used them for burgers and was really satisfied!

                    1. Foodie's Urban Market in the South End carries some hamburger / French rolls by Jessica's Brick Oven Bakery (Woburn) and (I think) from Clear Flour that are very substantial, will stand up nicely to a big, juicy burger. I like to toast mine on the grill.

                        1. I enjoy the brioche buns from Iggy's (I know there are a lot of CH that don't care for brioche and burgers), but my usual burger bun place is Bova's in the NE.

                          Last week I had a family bbq...6 lbs of fresh ground beef from Sulmona and a dozen Bova rolls= a happy crowd.

                            1. I think sesame seed burger buns are the best. Martins makes a great one and they can be found at any shaws market. I like the Iggy's brioche too and they hold up well. Martins makes really good potato rolls and I love their hot dog buns too. The sesame seed buns are big and fat.

                                  Martin potato rolls are my favorite burger and dog rolls; I prefer them even to fancy rolls from the likes of Iggy's. On the other end of the spectrum: Whole Foods' rolls are terrible!

                                          Sesame Seeds are a prerequisite for a hamburger bun in my book.

                                              Martin's, martin's, martin's. No question. The best burger bun in the world, hands down. And I love local, craft, handmade everything. But not for my burger bun. If it's good enough to actually change Kenny Shopsin's mind, you know it's the best.

                                                  Weird: I actually hate Martin's burger buns. I like the hefty amount of sesame seeds, but the buns themselves have a weirdly rubbery texture that I find distracting. However, I do like Martin's potato dinner rolls.

                                                  Personally, my favorites are Pepperidge Farm sandwich rolls, with sesame seeds. They're sturdy enough, they taste good, they toast well, and they're big enough to stand up to my personal preference for a flat, wide, thin burger.

                                                        I saw that. My cousin wrote that article. I'm going to do a "head to head tasting" with Martin's and Bova's sesame bun next time she's in town..:)

                                                        Actually, enough of you seem to like Martin's so I may even have to try them on my own.

                                                    • Fuddrucker's makes their own tasty, generous, sturdy buns and you can buy them there.

                                                          • I like the challah rolls at Trader Joes - good size and generally hold up well without being too sweet.

                                                              1. I'm a huge fan of using Portuguese muffins as burger buns. Bolo levedo is what it says on the packaging. Market Basket in Somerville has them all the time. Or you can use the bun-sized Portuguese bread. Just make sure that it's well-buttered and browned to keep from falling apart.
