The spinach gnocchi with gorganzola sauce at Malatesta..

Get some. Now.

I'm surprised this isn't one of the most touted dishes on this board. The gnocchi just melts in your mouth. I'm not usually a fan of a gorganzola sauce because it's usually overpowering. They got it RIGHT at Malatesta.

We also had the spaghetti chitarra, which is the HYPED dish at Malatesta. It was good. But it couldn't hold the gnocchi's jockstrap.

The place is a little out of the way, and the service was a little cold. But that gnocchi will have me back on my next trip. The prices are crazy reasonable too.

I totally agree with you - the gnocchi are amazing. We were there Fri. night during the crazy clouds. Not sure how you feel about calamari, but the appetizer was memorable - not sliced and fritta, but whole and I don't know what they did to it, but it was delicious. The ravioli were also nice, as was the pasta with ragu. The lamb was outstanding. Lots of good food, really. Good, reasonable wines - I don't mind cool service as long as someone brings me a glass of wine within a relatively short while. Remember to bring cash - I suppose that's what makes them in the reasonable category.

suse, The cold service didn't bother me because the prices were so reasonable, and the food was so delicious. Cold service tends to bug me quite a bit when the prices are high or the food doesn't live up to the hype. I will definitely return to Malatesta even though the location is pretty remote from any trains, and that tells you all you need to know. If I go back I like it. If I don't like a place I just exercise my option of never going back.

I can't wait to taste that gnocchi again. It was like a delicious little cloud.

Malatesta is definitely out of the way for me - I live in North Carolina - but now you have me craving those gnocchi. Next time I might not share. When we were there the service was kind of euro-cool, which I actually prefer to warm and fuzzy. There was just a touch of rushing because there were people lined up on the sidewalk, and that usually makes me absolutely crazy - often a deal breaker - but I managed to ignore that entirely - maybe is was all that wine. I'll be back, too....eventually.
