Sabor de Minas - Milford, MA

Having initially planned on being in Somerville today for Festas Juninas (http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/625347), and then ending up in Milford of all places, I was fortunately able to remedy the situation with a stop at Sabor de Minas, a small Brazilian restaurant on a relatively quiet end of the main drag in Milford.

No printed menus available, but one can easily figure it out, particularly on Saturdays, so I picked up a Saturday constitutional plate of feijoada to share with a friend I was visiting.

Slow-cooked, tender & savory beans amped up with rich pork fat from the pig-feet & bacon, accompanied by chourico and morcilla and hunks of soft shoulder. White rice, kale, farofa and a roasted chicken leg to boot, it was a fine rendition.

I also picked up some salgadinhos - a nice quibe and coxinha, a fried croquette of ground chicken and Catupiry cheese.

My friend, having married into a Portuguese family, also provided some homemade wine and housemade & smoked sausages (chourico and alheira) which we enjoyed on freshly baked Portuguese rolls.

Should you find yourself in Milford, check it out.

    1. Thanks for the post on this. I am in Milford and Franklin for the week and have been trying to find good places to go. I went for lunch today and it was great. I had a braised beef and a chicken with okra served with pinto beans and rice and a cube of gummy (not gummy bad) polenta. Everything was good, though I was there late and it was a bit well done, but the flavors were great.

They do two dishes a day and you can have as many servings as you want. The feijoada is only made on Saturdays and I am sadly going to miss it. Tomorrow is beef ribs and beef liver. Sounds very exciting, I am gonna try to get there.

Also a very good deal, as I had two plates of food, a coffee and a corn pudding thing (which was ok, but nothing spectacular) and my tab was $11.00.

sekelmaan, you made my posting this worth the while, thanks for reporting back ! I wasn't sure if anything with "Milford" in the subject title would even get looked at, but glad to see it paid off for you. Keep us posted if you spring for ribs & liver tomorrow.

          • We were rather lost in Milford today after making a Craigslist purchase and liked the looks of Sabor de Minas as we drove past it on our way back to 495. Menu is much the same as Nab outlined above. The roasted chicken is some of the tastiest I've tried; a can of guarana and beef salgadinhos rounded things out. We also tried a couple desserts available on the counter - the chocolate sprinkle covered caramel being delicious. The entire pie plate of food is $8, with unlimited refills. Is anyone eating more than one pie's worth? I'm impressed.

gini. This makes me very happy. Thanks.

Hard to tell in my overexposed pic above, but yes, I too recall the roasted bird being really quite tasty.

Too bad I have few reasons to go to Milford. Maybe I'll find a reason on Craigslist. ;)
