coconut M&M sightings?

I read about the "limited edition" coconut M&Ms on Chow but I haven't seen them in the usual places where I might pick up M&Ms. A friend shared some with me tonight, and they're pretty good, but he was vague about where he got them. Anyone seen them?

  1. Some Googling turned up reports that they will be released in August, and that people who have them have gotten them at candy conventions or Mars events. The information is pretty spotty, but I'm inclined to believe it hasn't hit the mass market yet. Mars would have saturated our television screens with information about a limited edition flavor by now, and I haven't seen anything yet.

    1. I bought some at Rite Aid on Friday 6/26/09. 1.5 oz for 88 cents.
The free-standing cardboard display was almost empty... employee wasn't sure if they would be getting another shipment in.

      1. How can someone be 'vague about where they got some M&Ms" ?

Doesn't sound like much of a friend, to me !! :)

LOL. You'd have to know him. Actually, he finally came up with that he'd gotten them at "the dollar store" but he didn't say where, and I don't have a lot of confidence that he literally meant "The Dollar Store" and not just a dollar store-type store.

Mars has been putting out these limited edition flavors but doesn't seem to promote them heavily. The raspberry ones, which were pretty good, I don't remember seeing promoted. The cherry ones (which weren't good) even less so. Until they ended up on close-out at Grocery Outlet, I didn't see the mint crispy ones in the Bay Area, only when I was in Philly. I'm sure eventually when the promotion is over the coconut will end up at Grocery Outlet, but I'm not that patient.

Thanks for the Rite Aid tip, Laura!

Bed, Bath, and Beyond has a HUGE selection of the limited edition M&M's right next to the registers and they had the mint crispy ones last time I was there (about a month ago).

Thanks! BB&B is pretty convenient to me.

        2. i bought a bag at the Rite Aid in Pleasanton, on Valley and Hopyard, in the shopping center with Gene's market. they were 99cents. they were ok, nice coconut flavor, but that same cloying super-sweetness that the cherry ones had. they were in a smallish round bin, at the front of the store, near the cash registers.

          1. 7-11 on Cedar in Newark. Next to the checkout.
