I always think of NY as the place to go for ethnic food, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, etc....I never think the classic steak. But I heard Frankie and Johnnies Steakhouse is very good, affordable and has a neat atmosphere. Should I trust my reports?

Yes we do have great steak houses in Manhattan. The best steak in NY is in Brooklyn. Peter Lugers porterhouse is the best steak in the city.....

My #1 steakhouse pick would be Keens, which has been in its 36th St. location since 1885! Thus, in addition to delicious steaks, chops (the signature mutton chop is legendary), etc., and excellent service, there is the unmatchable charm of the Old New York ambiance.

Not sure why you dont think so but New York probably has the best steakhouses in the country. It certainly has the most famous in Peter Lugers even though I dont think its the best in the city.

Yes, I would rather go to NYC steakhouses than Chicago. Skip the chains. I repeat, skip the chains, if you want a NYC steakhouse. I would suggest, in no particular order:
Keen's, Peter Luger, Wolfgang's. These are all noted for their prime, dry aged beef, and the first two have long decades of history. Wolfgang's is a knockoff, but still good.
