Czech or Polish butcher in or near Alexandria

  • 7

I will be in Alexandria for 10 days from the 2nd of July until the 12th and would love to find a good Czech or Polish butcher so that I can bring some good stuff home to South Carolina. Can anyone steer me in the right direction for this? I will have a car, so no problem getting there. Thanks!

  1. Drive your car up to Baltimore-really, there is no such butcher in Alexandria. I wish there was. What are you looking for specifically?

I'm looking for some good cold cuts - head cheese, krakower sausage, ham salami, kielbasa, etc. The closest place for me to buy really good ones down here in SC is Atlanta or Columbia and they are both a hike. Is there a particular place in Baltimore that's good?

        Ostrowski's-they make it themselves.

    2. You might want to try the Kielbasa Factory in Rockville. It's the only Polich meat place in the area that I know of. I haven't been there, though; so I can't attest to the quality. At the very least it would be a little closer than Baltimore (basically just follow the beltway up into Maryland).

      Here's their website: http://kielbasafactory.com/

Thanks, Dusk - I checked out their website and it looks like exactly what I'm looking for! I'll call before I go to make sure that they're still open.

      2. Well worth a trip is Krakus Deli in Baltimore. http://www.krakusdelibaltimore.com/
Among others they offer fresh sausages, Hams, Kishka and he smokes his own sausages there in the store. Especially good is the smoked, garlicky hunter sausage and pork tenderloin and ham kielbasa.

        1. there's the *german* gourmet deli near bailey's crossroads. it may or may not fit the bill... but it is close-by to check out. http://www.fairfaxcountyva.com/index....
