We live in southern Illinois but come to St. Louis for much of our shopping at Trader Joe's and Costco. We are looking for a good place to buy lamb: legs, chops, cubes, ground. Any options closer to Carbondale?

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I have bought very good lamb at Straub's in the past. Unfortunately, there are no Straub's in Ilinois.

There are several. Here is the website: http://www.straubs.com/store/. Their locations are central and west, although there is one in Webster, which would be convenient to Hwy. 44.

Sam's Club has excellent rack of lamb, ready to cook w/ Frenched bones at excellent prices. You will pay four times their price at Straubs, I've had both and Sam's is excellent. Although for Prime beef Straub's has no competition.

You might try Kenrick's Meats on Weber Rd in South St. Louis County. It's a large, well established, very friendly meat purveyor, caterer and deli. If they don't have what you're looking for I'm sure they can advise.

Hi Dochoch. Ya know there is a place just south of Old 13 on Rte 127 south of Murphysboro that sells fresh lamb. It's a farm on the west side of the road (Rte 127) but I can't remember how far south. I think it's w/in 3 -5 miles of Murphy. In St. Louis, I would recommend Star Packing. That is where my Armenian friend and I get out legs to rotisserie here at home. Very interesting place to say the least. They will cut you want and as much as you want too. Quite reasonable too.
