La Vecchia Cucina in Santa Monica. Anyone Been?

  • 6

I searched this Board, but there is almost nothing about La Vecchia Cucina in Santa Monica.

Has anyone been? Is it any good? I looked at the menu online and it looked fairly pedestrian. Any suggestions on what to order?

  1. I haven't been there for a few years, but they've been around for what feels like forever. They make pretty standard, solid Italian food. I remember really liking their steak pizziola, but it's been a while, so take that recommendation at your own risk.

    1. Menu is pretty standard, but I like it. Pizzas and salads are good, and their spaghetti and meatballs (little bitty meatballs) has a lot of fans.

The Pizza I had was abominable. It looked like it came out of a microwave at a Bowling Alley snack shop. Soggy crust, drenched with cheese, inedible.
The warm bread at the beginning and meat-sauce rigitoni was fine.

      2. Um, I went. The food was edible (how is that for damming with faint praise?) I understand now why we don't see much on Chowhound about this place. Food passable. Very middle brow. Took 45 minutes between appetizers and entrees. Maybe okay for a drink. Would not voluntarily return to eat.

          with you on this 100%.

what i can't figure out, though, is that supposedly la vecchia is somehow connected with il forno in santa monice, a restaurant that offers many good options.

        2. I wouldn't bother with La Vecchia (even though friends have dragged me there a couple of times). For Italian on Main St., try Via Veneto or Ado and just off the Venice boardwalk, try Piccolo.
