Center City Rehearsal Dinner Recommendations?

Hi Philly food fans!

My fiancee and I are getting married in Philadelphia in September, and I'm having a hard time finding the right restaurant for a rehearsal dinner. To make matters more difficult, we live in Brooklyn, so we're not familiar with the best eats in Philly.

What do you recommend in Center City for a 40-person rehearsal dinner? I come from a family of food lovers, so I'm interested to hear which restaurants you love--but it will also be the first time my fiancee's parents and mine meet each other, so a nice ambiance would certainly be a plus.

Thanks for your help!

Ben

For the event type, I've heard good things about Fork and Estia. If they've got the (private) room, Osteria would be lovely as well. We had pre-wedding related events at both Lacroix (a 22-person lunch) and Upstair's at DiBruno Brothers (60-person casual dinner - while the downstairs gourmet store is closed). If you want something more exotic, the newer Jose Garces places may have the space (Tinto, Distrito, Chifa).

    2. I had my rehearsal dinner at Estia- an amazing Greek restaurant in Center City... beautiful atmosphere featuring authentic, fresh, traditional Greek food (great salads and spreads, fresh fish sold by the pound, amazing lamb chops)... My family is full of foodies and they all loved it... we had a great spread of appetizers (Greek spreads, zucchini and eggplant chips, etc.) during the cocktail hour to hold everyone over until the main dinner... you get a private cocktail lounge downstairs and a private dining room for your party... They provide you with 3 menu options and you can add or substitute to the menu if it does not satisfy your tastes. The event coordinator was amazing and waked us through everything... the staff could not have been more hospitable during the dinner... you can check them out on their website estiarestaurant.com... trust me you will not regret it! If you are looking for a comparison being that you are from New York, Estia is very similar to Avra in midtown Manhattan... good luck and congrats!
