Fun/date restaurant needed in WV/EV/Soho for tonight...PLEASE

I'm looking for a restaurant for this evening (Thurs) that has a cool vibe, not too loud but not too quiet, for me and a date. Another couple will be joining us later for drinks/snacks so the restaurant can't be too small that they'll not be able to accommodate late arrivals. As long as there is a cool bar we can move to after dinner, that would work. We love wine so tapas, Italian, French would be good but can also do mediterranean or Japanese/sushi...heck, we'll go just about anywhere really (we just love food :-)).

We're pretty sociable people as well so places with communal tables are fine. We actually live near Hell's Kitchen but want to get out of neighborhood for tonight so was thinking West Village, East Village, or Soho but open to other neighborhoods.

Thanks in advance!

      Pylos (Greek) on E. 7th.

Several Italian restaurants and wine bars that are all quite good and are in the same area (4th or 5th btw. A and B). In Vino, Cannonau, Perbacco and Lavagna.

I've read good things about In Vino on Yelp. Between the 4 you mentioned, do you have a favorite? Thanks!

I like In Vino. Nice atmosphere and relatively quite if you get there before 8. The have a small bar area and tables.

I really like the ambiance at In Vino. Warm and cozy. Food is quite good and consistent. Simple and well prepared. This would be my personal favorite.

One caveat is that the place is small and when crowded it can feel a bit cramped.

Since there appears to be no rain in the forecast for this evening, I'd head to La Lanterna Caffe.

One of my favorite date restaurants in the East Village is Knife and Fork. Very good food and it's generally quiet.

If you don't mind waiting, Momofuku Noodle has communal tables and it's always a fun atmosphere.
