SUSHI VANCOUVER

Hi everyone,
This is my first post! very exciting! I have been following Chow and using it for mainly restaurant ideas in my hometown, Montreal, for about 3 years.

In Van for only 1 night (friday), with my boyfriend.
WE WANT TO EAT REALLY GOOD SUSHI! We love Sashimi and original stuff (chef inspiration etc.). We like to sit at a bar and see whats good, talk with the chef etc.

Is there a good recommendation in downtown area (or near) we are staying on Georgia near Burrard.

Someone suggested Tojo's, but I hear mixed reviews, so before I reserve there, would like other suggestions!

Thanks very much in advance!
Jess

I've never been disappointed with Tojos. Decide how much you want to pay, order omakase and sit back and enjoy. The chefs at Tojos come up with their own unique creations in addition to the usual. Yoshis, IMHO, is very good but ordinary. Octopus Garden is cute and funky but not somewhere I'd choose for a special night out.

unfortunately not in the downtown area.. Lime would be a great option.
Its on commercial drive .. maybe 15 min cab ride from downtown.

I would stick to Octopus Garden or Lime (as someone else mentioned). I haven't been to Tojo's in years so it'll be hard to comment.

AjiSai and Yoshi are both very fresh, but not as inventive as the above two.

I don't think Okada or Toshi will meet your needs. Can't comment on Jewel Bako or Shiju (Shijo?). Where is Jewel Bako?
