Bazaar, Tavern...need some inspiration

gourmetgal1 Jun 24, 2009 02:02 PM

Sooo, I tried to make a reservation for this Saturday at both the Bazaar (booked on Saturday thru August) and Tavern (nothing until 9:30). My fiance and I have date night on Saturdays. I was really looking forward to trying these places and I am feeling a little discouraged.
I have been to Animal-LOVED it, but wanted to try somewhere that I have never been and that is delicious. Is there anywhere else along these lines that I should try? I have been to Spago, Ortolan, Melisse, Joe's, Sona, Comme Ca, Lucques, AOC, etc.
What would you guys suggest trying for this Saturday that you have found, new and exciting lately, with great food? Hopefully I will still be able to get a reservation somewhere! Really appreciate your help in advance!

How about Rustic Canyon? I have heard great things about it but have never made it over there. Anyone been there recently?

Thank you for all of the great suggestions! I had drinks at Fig last week-great ambiance, have to check it out for dinner. I have been to Josie and Wilshire. I will add Church and State, Boho, Jar and Hatfield's to my list of places to try for date night!

Jar and Hatfield's are both great, especially Hatfield's.

Have had great success finding two seats at the bar as a walk-in at Tavern. I love that I can order from both the bar menu and/or the dining room menu. That's how we celebrated last Saturday for our "date night." The bartenders are extremely friendly and great mixologists. Tavern makes a damn good drink.

Rivera. Even if you can't get a reservation, you can usually get seats with no wait at their equivalent of the sushi bar. It's actually more fun to sit there and be able to watch all of the plating action.

Not really new but I did not see Hatfield's, Josie or Wilshire in your list of places you have been (unless as "etc.") so one of those might be worthwhile.

Rivera is great- one of my best meals in a while was had there. Also One Pico is a great date place- romantic, on the beach- great food and service was impeccable.

Went a few weeks ago to BoHo and had a great time! After dinner, S.O. and I reparked the car closer to "the Blvd." and had a great walk through the Kodak theater, etc. http://www.bohorestaurant.com/ - Dinner for two with 1 beer and soda came to 87$ w/tip - fabulous gazpacho and oyster sliders. S.O. LOVED the burger. Try the framboise (beer) w/the sliders. YUM!

Perhaps Fig at the Fairmont in Santa Monica?
