has chowhound thought of blog awards?

i think chowhound should do an award each year for the best all-round food blog -- the one that chowhounds love to return to time after time, the one that gives pleasure, and -- the one with the best darn recipes you want to cook, eat and serve to your friends!

i rise to the floor and hereby nominate mrs. ree drummond, pioneer woman! she's got wonderful food, served up with humor, fantastic photography of food (and other great subjects), photog lessons, home & garden stuff (like dishes, and she gives away cool kitchen appliances, yay!), the great west, animals, family, and love!

we can link the threads (here's the pioneer woman's ), and then vote by year's end! how about it?

"the golden houndie"? nah...let's get a better name, shall we?

the "golden chowhound"?

the "tempest in a teapot"? <oops! no, that's reserved for awards for certain threads on chowhound.>

it's summer; let your hair down and have some fun here!

  1. The Chowies

The TopDog Awards (although that could infer that Jim Leff approves of the blog, and perhaps he won't!)

And are we allowed to nominate one of our own? MC Slim JB is a great writer - doesn't have the beauteous pics that Pioneer Woman does, but I do love the writing!

And then there is Michael Ruhlman's blog - just because. :-)

those pickles and that pastrami look awesome. thanks, i hadn't seen his blog. beautiful photos too.

    2. I love Use Real Butter because, well, we should all use real butter, she is an amazing photographer (but a lot of the nature shots bore me to bits), and she is so forthright. You see how food is her life, and how life translates into her food (cancer recovery, etc.) It's so fresh, in every sense of the word (ie. some strong language for sensitive folk)

the coconut macaroons look so decadent, there. and i love the dog's expression..

and i'm craving this pad thai for breakfast right now:

      2. The Golden Hound......a nod to explorer Sir Francis Drake's ship, the Golden Hind (a hind is a deer). A shared spirit of adventure.
