Monday dinner in Wheaton/Silver Spring

  • 6

Hi Hounds! I'm coming to D.C. with my family for a whirlwind weekend tour. On Monday late afternoon, we will be visiting relatives in Wheaton and will want an early-ish dinner before getting on the road back to Philly (i.e. taking the beltway to 95). I'm looking for someplace casual, where picky kids can find something to eat, but that still has delicious food. I love Thai, but it's often hard to find something for the kids at Thai places. I'm dying to try Peruvian chicken--anyplace good on our route? Any other fun, casual, yummy spots we should try for?

Thanks for any help!

  1. You're in luck, Wheaton has great thai and peruvian chicken places. El Pollo Rico (www.ilovethischicken.com) is my favorite, they serve nothing but the most delicious flavorful, fragrent chicken. The lines can get long but they move at a resonable pace so don't get discouraged.

As for Thai, my favorite is Ruan Thai. That place looks like a hole in the wall take out joint but they make really delicious thai dishes. I've never been to Nava Thai but I've heard great things about it

Great! I think we might go for the chicken, as I've always wanted to try it. Are there any sides that the kids would be likely to eat?

They don't have too many sides, french fries, coleslaw, empanadas, and plantains.

Oh and you can order the chicken in quarter/half/whole so it might be worth your while to get a whole one if you are feeding a whole family.

    2. The Royal Mile Pub is an excellent, casual, friendly spot with a nice range of options. The fare is thematically Scottish, but there are some deviations. The range is from good 'pub fare' options to some more refined dishes. The haggis is homemade and really nice. Clean and nutty. The scotch selection is also the best in the area and the beer options are plentiful and represent some good local breweries. Restaurants in the Wheaton area seem to be closing by the droves, but the Royal Mile appears to be holding steady.

Love Royal Mile! Great food and fun atmosphere.

      2. the chicken is one of the best, but kind of far from my home. I would also like a wider array of side choices, but the chicken flavor overcomes the want of more sides.
