Lunch in Orange, VA Around Montpelier

Family is in town and we are going down to see the new restoration at Montpelier. Looking for a good sit-down place for lunch for a group of 8-10 people in a 15 mile radius of Orange, VA. we would prefer not to go south into Charlottesville. I know that there is good food in this area...just don't know where.

  1. The Town of Gordonsville is about 15 - 20 minutes away from Montpelier. It is a quaint little town with a variety of nice restaurants and gift shops. Here is the URL to the Town's web site.

    1. Used to live just outside Orange but it's been a long time -- you might try posting this on the South board.

      1. There is no shortage of restaurants in Orange, Virginia! Here are some of our favorites: Elmwood at Sparks ( is about 5 minutes from Montpelier, on Main Street in Orange. It's a great place to eat lunch or dinner, and serves upscale food at a reasonable price. I'd recommend reservations for a group of that size. The Silk Mill Grill in Orange would also suit your needs--sandwiches, salads, steaks, chicken, seafood, etc. If you are looking for something very casual with great country food, the Hornet's Nest in Orange, Virginia is another good option--fantastic barbecue, country-fried steak, etc. Also in the casual and inexpensive category is El Vaquero West or San Marcos in Orange. El Vaquero is a great locally-owned Tex-Mex restaurant. San Marcos also serves Mexican food, but their menu has some delicious selections that are a little beyond the ordinary--tortas, chicken tinga, creative burritos, etc. All of these places are near Montpelier, and all are great places to eat, depending on what you are interested in!
