I'm seeking an inexpensive restuarant near Grand Central Station, not in it, for seven adults and three toddlers for Sunday dinner. Indian, chinese, American (no burgers), or Italian.

TIA

Pershing Square
Naples 45
Junior's (this is in the food court in the basement on GC; there are so many options there which are all relatively inexpensive.).

Sorry to be a voice of dissent but the pizza at Naples 45 is awful. The sauce is bitter, the cheese flavorless, and the crust is like cardboard. Yes, it's thin crust but it also tastes like crap. I worked in the Met Life building for years and we'd occasionally order out from Naples when we were working late. After awhile we just gave up.

The other stuff on the menu may be decent - it's been a long time since I had it.

Fagiolini on Lexington Ave. and 39th is a nice Italian choice. The prices are reasonable and the food is pretty good.

If you're willing to walk for 10 minutes Szechuan Gourmet serves some of the best Chinese food in the city. Two stars from the NY Times. The only caveat is that you'd want to be sure that all members of your party can handle Szechuan food.

We just had an office lunch at Fagiolini and it was horrible. All of our pasta was very overcooked and the sauce on mine was totally without any seasoning. I would not return.

I guess opinions are what this board is all about but I think Pershing Square and Naples 45 are both ripoffs with not very good food and the food court at GC is kind of cheerless and mall-like. Can't immediately think of other options but I'm sure others can.

I'm with you on Perishing Square. Completely unimpressed by the food and atmosphere.

If u are ok with pizza, I like Dean's on 42nd and 2nd. Kids will love the pies and there's plenty of salads, pastas and entrees.

I'll let you know on Monday. That's where we are headed.

Thanks to all the suggestions. SG is great, I've eaten there, but not for children. In case you don't have any, they like to "wander" when in restuarants, and you need a big place. On Sunday, naples 45 should not be too crowded so food is the second consideration. I'd rather have a lousy pizza than not enjoy a good meal with children restless.

Ha ha. I was right, it's not going to be crowded, at all! Plan B is now in effect. As we will be at the Central park Zoo, and our group has expanded, we will walk over to Lilly and Loo on Lex. Have anice dinner upstairs where the toddlers can toddle, and then head over to GCT by subway, which the VT visitors love to take.
