Sakura, Winchester, review
I've been twice, had a lunch box and a nigiri/maki/sashimi platter. I'm not an expert on Japanese cuisine, but I thought that it was good, and better than many Japanese restaurants I've been to. Moderate price point, nice dinning room, friendly service. I think they have been open for about a month or two.
I live in Winchester so I was happy to see this place open but after trying it for lunch one time I would have to say it is very average and not much different from many of the other mid range Japanese places in the area. I would agree that the decor is pleasant and the staff and the owners are very pleasant but the food is just average and not something I would drive out of my way to try. When I am in the mood for Japanese I will take the short drive to Wakefield and go to Sushi Island. Superb sushi along with many other traditional dishes.
This place has been here for quite some time and I have tried it way back and it was OK so it kind of fell off the lunch radar. I recently found out that they do an all you can eat Sushi both at lunch and dinner. It's very similar to what Maki Maki in Woburn offers. I visited at lunch today and it was very quiet and that was good because the sushi arrived without delay. They said that lunch was usually quiet but dinner time is busy and the weekend is VERY busy. The all you can eat is offered 6 days a week (closed Mondays). They offer sushi, rolls, hand rolls, and also hot offerings from the kitchen. The sushi blows Maki Maki away as did the shrimp tempura. Decent pieces of very fresh fish on nice rice. Tried the squid tempura and that was a bit of a disappointment. All you can eat lunch is $13.95 and dinner is $20.95. There are more choices at dinner time on the all you can eat menu. I think this was very good value for the money.
